Prima ed unica rara edizione di questo scritto di Pietro Cavedoni, fratello di Celestino, (29 nov. 1792-7 marzo 1862) che fu "ordinato sacerdote il 20 maggio 1815 e, dal 1ş sett. 1832, arciprete maggiore della metropolitana modenese, è soprattutto da ricordare come biografo di Pio VI.". Altre a quest'opera pubblicò diversi altri volumi a carattere storico e biografico come quelli dedicati a Luigi d'Anghien o quello a Maria Clotilde di Borbone. Non mancò di scrivere anche diversi trattati di storia dell'arte sacra ed in particolare dedicati al duomo di Modena. In questo scritto si inserisce all'interno del dibattito scientifico e fisiologico che all'inizio dell'ottocento vide contrapposti diverse personalità del tempo. In particolare il dibattito fisiologico-filosofico che vide coinvolti fra gli altri Bufalini e Fabbrini, si concentrò sulla presenza ed il tipo di forze vitali che muovono l'uomo tra un alternarsi tra teorie browniane e quelle "dinamiche".
