L'autore aveva già intrapreso la pubblicazione delle sue poesie in dialetto valdostano alcuni anni prima, ma avvertiva la mancanza di regole in quel campo, e si decise di colmare quel vuoto quando già era arrivato alle soglie dei 68 anni di età. Jean-Baptiste Cerlogne (1826-1910), poeta e linguista di origini contadine, nativo di una borgata presso Saint Nicolas, esercitò vari mestieri (tra cui quello di cuoco) e partecipò valorosamente alla prima Guerra d'Indipendenza, fino alla sconfitta di Novara. Datosi poi alla carriera ecclesiastica, divenne curato nel 1864. Nel 1893 ebbe la cappellania di Front Canavese dove pubblicò quasi privatamente, con un metodo di stampa tutto artigianale, questo libretto.
