Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Circa 1890s. The binding measures 6 in. by 7.5 in. Purple cloth (showing some fading along the edges) with gilt designs over boards. The title on the spine reads: "Album." All edges gilt. The pages were originally blank. The compiler cut out a total of 49 reproductions of wood engravings from four stories contained in a children's picture book published in Munich by Braun & Schneider (Munchener Bilderbucher, No. 25) and pasted them on the recto pages. The four stories are: (1) Die Vergebliche Rattenjagd (The Frustrated Rat Chase); (2) Die Fliege (the Fly); (3) Die Rutschpartie (The Coasting Party); and (4) Regelbahnstudien auf dem Lande (Nine-pin Alley Studies in the Country). The plates in (3) and (4) have captions in German; someone has written English translations in red ink under each plate. The plates in (1) and (2) have no captions. The engravings in (1) are by Friedrich Lossow, (2) and (3) were done by Wilhelm Busch; those in (4) were by Adolf Cesar. A handmade, unique item, and well-preserved.
