Also includes some Daoist and secular images; all date between the Tang and Qing Dynasties. Perhaps due to the remoteness of many of the sites recorded, all murals featured appear to have been preserved in remarkably fine original condition. The temple is apparently the largest in the world dedicated to Guanyu. With copious colour plates showing architectural detail, interior decoration and views of the complex as a whole. Large (36 x 28 cm) book on an important Buddhist monastery founded allegedly by Lu Xun for his mother during Jin Dynasty. The present structure dates from about 11th/12th century, the extant art is later. Important book for the art of Chinese Buddhism.
