Devic avec son cachet, envoi autographe signé des deux a…uteurs à Devic, bon exemplaire. Editions originales. Réunion de deux volumineuses thèses de doctorat en médecine sur la cancérologie digestive, soutenues à Lyon. La première, soutenue à Lyon en 1906, est celle de René Leriche (1879-1955) qui fut l'un des plus grands chirurgiens français de son époque. Il exerça à Lyon et à Strasbourg, avant d'être nommé à la chaire de médecine expérimentale du Collège de France. Il fut membre de l'Académie des sciences et de l'Académie de médecine. Avant de devenir un pionnier de la chirurgie de la douleur et de la chirurgie vasculaire, il fut "spécialement attiré par la chirurgie gastrique et intestinale. C'est le début des gastrectomies et des colectomies : la chirurgie digestive est la plus prestigieuse à l'époque." (M.A. Germain). En 1914, il réalisera la première véritable colectomie couronnée de succès ("the first truly successful colectomy", D. de Moulin). Cette thèse très documentée est basée sur 1366 observations de gastrectomie (personnelles et tirées de la littérature). La seconde thèse est celle d'André Chalier, qui deviendra professeur agrégé à la Faculté de médecine de Lyon. Il rédigera en 1924, avec Henri Mondor, une importante monographie sur le cancer du rectum. Cette thèse est basée sur 47 observations personnelles et sur plusieurs statistiques (dont plusieurs inédites). Provenance : Eugène Devic (1858-1930), médecin des hôpitaux de Lyon et professeur agrégé à la Faculté de médecine.
