First edition.Swiss author Jacques Chantier [1924-1979], born Jean-Claude Piguet,settled in Paris in 1948 and published his first works there. These early works were followed by more than twenty years of silence during which he never gave up on his vocation as a writer. At the end of this period he wrote the thirty-six poems which are collected in this volume.The text is in French.

Condition: Fine. SIGNED BY JACQUES CHANTIER AND JEAN-PIERRE L'ESPRIT - Large octavo, softcover bound in printed golden yellow wrappers with a vignette in black on the front wrap. The binding is slightly bumped with a tiny stain to the top edge of the rear wrap. 59 pages plus colophon. Illustrated with a cover vignette & 5 surrealistic black-and-white plates by Jean-Pierre L'Esprit. Near fine. Of a total edition of 153 copies printed on vellum, this is one of 3 copies marked "H.C." and signed by the author and illustrator.Jacques Chantier [Jean-Claude Piguet; 1924-1979] was born in the Jura. In 1948 he moved to Paris where his work "Le train" [1949], a nihilistic surreal tale, brought him some notoriety. After publishing "Les gitans" [1955] and writing a play, "La nuit du carnaval", nothing more was heard from him for twenty years until a book of thirty-six poems, "La vie au vent", was published by Les Editions du Grand-Pont in 1976. He died in Lausanne in 1979.
