Golden Book (Hardcover with st. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Gulliver's Travels by "Dean Swift" (1896? Hardcover without Dust Jacket) Gulliver's Travels (1726) was a satirical "account" of world exploration & discoveries of the 17th century written by Jonathan Swift. Jonathan Swift (1663-1745) was an Anglo-Irish writer and an Anglican cleric. He became the dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral of Dublin in 1713. Thus, he was often referred to as Dean Swift, especially when analyzing a piece of his satire written in the deadpan ironic style he favored. The original Gulliver's Travels was far from a children's book and quite risque. However, it was funny and became (when appropriately abridged) a children's classic in 19th century and beyond. The edit by Edwin O. Chapman of this edition was necessary. 132pp. Interior is tight, clean and unmarked, but separated from cover. Interior paper has browned and bookworm damage is found at top of pages opposite spine at rear of text. 1st 4 pages missing at front of book. Page numbering stopped printing at page 125. Text appears complete. Hardcover has illustrated front pasted on cardboard boards with blue cloth spine, but no DJ. Over 250 B&W ILLUSTRATIONS. No copyright nor printing dates found. 1896 was a common date other sellers used for the Donohue published version and we adopted that date. Made in U.S.A. M. A. Donohue promoted this title as No. 232 in "YOUNG FOLKS CLASSICS SERIES." No specific edition nor print-run info found. No ISBN, LCCN, nor MSR. Thanks for looking! No Ownership Markings.
