Art / Print / Poster
Kupferstich 39,5 x 26 cm. Der Kupferstich im Stile einer leichten Zeichnung zeigt ein baumbestandene Landschaft. Im Schatten eines Baumes sitzt ein Mann und liest in einem großen Buch. Vor ihm ein ruhender Löwe. Unten links im Blatt Annibal Carache inv., unten rechts G x Sculp. Ein Mann mit einem Löwen könnte auf Hieronymus oder Gerasimos hindeuten, wobei Hieronymus wegen seiner Gelehrsamkeit meist auch mit einem Schädel als Beiwerk dargestellt wird. G ist vermutlich der Kupferstecher Simon Guillain, der oftmals Zeichnung von Carache gestochen hat. Annibal Carache oder Annibale Carracci, 1560 1609, italienischer Maler und Kupferstecher; Simon Guillain 1581 1658, Bildhauer, Architekt und Kupferstecher. Das Blatt bis an den Bildrand beschnitten, Faltspuren, rückseitig Spuren alter Rahmung. Die Darstellung kraftvoll und sauber, ein schönes Blatt.
