Sixth Printing; Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Dust Jacket. Revised Edition. Ex-Library; B & W ; 4 1/4 x 7"; xxxvii, 328 pages; Hard cover has red spine with faded gold lettering. Former library books with typical markings. Missing DJ. Front and rear gutters weak. Pages clean and tight. Illustrated with b/w pictures. 'This little volume, more or less of pocket size, is designed primarily to meet the needs of the amateur outdoor naturalist, its main purpose being to enable a worker with the minimum of technical knowledge quickly and easily to identify any species of fish likely to be found in the area treated. The author therefore begins by defining what is meant by the term fish, and describes briefly their general manner of life. A short chapter is devoted to descriptions of the various types of environment included in the region under survey, which extends from the cold boreal waters of Labrador through the temperate seas of the Atlantic seaboard of America down to the warm tropical waters of the Gulf of Mexico. An offshore limit has been set at the twenty-five fathom line, and the brackish water zone marks the shoreward limit up streams and estuaries. The greater part of the book is devoted to analytical keys and descriptive matter. .'.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'Field Book of Marine Fishes of the Atlantic Coast' is a comprehensive and authoritative guide to the diverse aquatic life found from Labrador to Texas. Written by Charles M. Breder, Jr., this seminal work serves as an essential reference for both amateur naturalists and professional ichthyologists. The book provides detailed descriptions and identification keys for the marine species inhabiting the coastal waters of the Atlantic, covering both common shore fishes and those found in deeper oceanic zones.Arranged systematically, the text covers physical characteristics, habitats, and geographic distributions, offering a clear taxonomic overview of the region's marine fauna. With a focus on accuracy and field utility, the guide includes numerous illustrations and keys designed to facilitate identification in a variety of environments. Whether used as a scientific resource or a companion for seaside exploration, 'Field Book of Marine Fishes of the Atlantic Coast' remains a vital contribution to the study of North American marine biology, capturing the rich biodiversity of the Atlantic seaboard during the early twentieth century. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you may see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations.
