Paris, Auvray, 1831. 3 grandes feuilles gravées sur taille-douce, entoilées et portant l'étiquette imprimée d'Auvray avec titre manuscrit à l…'encre brune (Hémisphère Boréal, Zone, Hémisphère Austral). Signature autographe de l'auteur à l'encre brune sur la feuille centrale. Première édition. Charles Dien (1809-1870), cartographe et graveur parisien, réalise cette grande carte céleste sous l'autorité scientifique d'Alexis Bouvard (1767-1843), directeur de l'Observatoire de Paris, membre de l'Académie des sciences et du Bureau des Longitudes. Bouvard était alors au faîte de sa réputation : ses tables astronomiques pour Jupiter, Saturne et Uranus - et les anomalies irréductibles de ces dernières - allaient conduire à la prédiction puis à la découverte de Neptune par Adams et Le Verrier, après sa mort. La réduction des positions stellaires a été confiée à M. Marion, calculateur au Bureau des Longitudes. L'Uranographie se déploie en trois feuilles complémentaires. L'hémisphère boréal et l'hémisphère austral sont représentés en projection polaire stéréographique, figurant quelque 1 500 étoiles dont les magnitudes sont différenciées par la taille des symboles ; les étoiles doubles et les nébuleuses les plus remarquables y sont spécifiquement signalées. La feuille de la Zone déroule la bande équatoriale organisée selon les mois du calendrier (d'octobre à novembre), permettant de repérer les constellations zodiacales - Scorpion, Sagittaire, Cancer, Capricorne - dont les noms figurent en français. Deux tableaux marginaux enrichissent l'ensemble : l'un détaille les distances orbitales et diamètres relatifs des planètes, l'autre recense les satellites de Jupiter, de Saturne et d'Uranus. La dédicace à Bouvard, composée en caractères calligraphiés d'une grande élégance typographique, est imprimée sur la feuille centrale comme "hommage de respect et de reconnaissance de l'Auteur." Three large engraved sheets mounted on linen, each preserved in its original cloth slipcase bearing Auvray's printed label with handwritten title (Hémisphère Boréal, Zone, Hémisphère Austral). Approx. 80 x 111 cm per sheet. Autograph signature of the author in brown ink on the central sheet. The map was created by Charles Dien (1809-1870) under the scientific supervision of Alexis Bouvard (1767-1843), director of the Paris Observatory and member of the Académie des sciences. Star positions were reduced by M. Marion, calculator at the Bureau des Longitudes. The three sheets depict the northern and southern hemispheres in stereographic polar projection, an equatorial band organized by calendar month, and marginal tables listing planetary data and satellites of Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus. Il tenta quelques innovations dans la construction des sphères et des globes ; le remplacement des méridiens en cuivre par des méridiens en bois, qu'il fit breveter en 1829, et la fabrication en métal repoussé. Parmi ses écrits, on retient plusieurs atlas sur les phénomènes astronomiques ainsi que quelques brochures à caractère plus ou moins publicitaire sur l'usage des globes - des siens plus particulièrement -, à l'exemple des publications des Delamache, dont Charles Dien père était le graveur. Questo atlante Ë stato destinato a facilitare la ricerca e l'osservazione di comete, nebulose e pianeti al telescopio; il formato delle tavole, pi? grande rispetto agli atlanti precedenti, rendeva pi? facile la fruizione della posizione delle stelle dell'anno 1860, come citato a pag. 6; la proiezione adottata degli astri Ë quella sferica Ë stata preferita a quella rettilinea dell'atlante di Harding.
