Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Printed in England. Date on the title page. First Printing. Preface, Twelve Essays (Footnotes and brief Bibliography for each); 350 pages, followed by a description of 'Unity History Schools' [two pages] and a listing of the series publications on the rear pastedown. The original moss-gre…en cloth is rubbed at the extremities, with a scratch on the lower board; gilt lettering is clear on the bumped spine. Ex-Library from the University of Hawaii, with blind-stamp on the title page, and an ink number with discreet 'Withdrawn' at the preface. There is light toning to the free endpapers and a signature of author R. [Robert] H. Murray who left pale pencil markings---mostly in Whitehead's essay, "The First Physical Synthesis." The remaining 330 pages are completely clean. [Please see my five images of the actual book.] From the description at rear: "A sketch in broad outline is given of the history of science, especially in its relation to the contemporary social evolution. First the historical retrospect, then the living problem, and the whole looked at from the completely human, not merely nationalist standpoint." As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking.
