This fascinating book is devoted to the life and works of Pierre Leroux, a French philosopher whose ideas had a profound influence on 19th-century thought. The author meticulously examines Leroux's philosophical and socialist writings, showing their connection to the broader intellectual landscape of his time. Specific attention is given to Leroux's concept of a 'new religion' based on the unity of humanity and the reconciliation of faith and reason. The book also sheds light on his political activism and his role in the 1848 Revolution, demonstrating the practical implications of his philosophical beliefs. Through this comprehensive analysis, the book offers a rich and nuanced understanding of Pierre Leroux, his thought, and his enduring legacy in the development of modern philosophy and social thought. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

ÒThough blamed for the decline of the monarchyÕs prestigeÉ[Madame de Cheauroux] upgraded the status of ma"tress en titre (official mistress) to an institution of state, setting the stage for her successors. The widow of the marquis de Tournelle, she made use of her charms under the tutelage of the duc de Richelieu, her cousin and counselor in the game for power. She requested financial allowances, legitimization of any children she might bear the king, and the dismissal from the royal court of her eldest sister, Mme. de MaillyÉ[her] growing ambitions made her instrumental in RichelieuÕs martial politics. Frederick the Great considered her a stabilizing agent in Franco-Prussian relationsÉÓ Sartori, The Feminist Encyclopedia of French Literature). Two volumes in one, twelvemo. xx, 218, 4 (ads); [4], 286, [1] pp. Half later nineteenth-century calf over marbled boards, gilt spine. Occasional light foxing, a few short marginal tears. A very good copy. First edition of the correspondence of Louis XVÕs mistress (1717-1744), edited by Marie-Armande-Jeanne Gacon-Dufour (1753-1835).
