Pra Law [Lilit Phra Law] is a Thai narrative poem probably dating to the 15th or 16th century, recounting the life and adventures of the mythical Pra Law, the heroic, handsome son of a king, who falls in love with the daughters of a ruler of a rival kingdom. The present, much abbreviated (and sanitized) translation and adaptation for the Western stage is believed by the author to be the first English version. Covers creased, small chip off tail of spine; internal pages lightly tanned but otherwise remain clean and unmarked. [xi], 110 pp. Size: 19 x 13 cm.

The Thai epic folk poem, Khun Chang Khun Phan, a romantic adventure, has had input over the centuries by various illustrious poets, including Sunthorn Phu as well as several members of Thai royalty. Its origins, however may date back to the medieval Ayutthaya period, and was also possibly based on actual lives. It remains immensely popular to the present day. The present two volume précis was the first rendering of the epic into English. Book One (1955): DJ lightly soiled. All pages tanned, a few pages have minor edge tears and losses not effecting text. Otherwise pages are clean and unmarked [v], 97 pp., 26 b&w drawings. Book Two (1959): DJ lightly soiled. All pages tanned, a few pages have minor edge tears and one page with a marginal note. Published by Chatra Books Bangkok in May 1989, this is the softback printing of Prem Chaya's SIAMESE IDYLL: A Book of Poems. 51 pages, soft card covers the book is in fair condition with the front and back soft card covers torn (but still included) along the length of the spine and now unattached. The book also has general browning to the card cover edges and end papers.
