No Binding. Condition: Very Good. A fine original antique hand-coloured engraving. Plate size 8 x 5.5 ins, 21x 14 cms. Mounted and ready to frame. Mount size 12 x 10 ins, 31 x 25 cms. Very good, circa 1850. A fine opportunity to aquire an antique original hand-coloured view - decorative, attractive and scarce. Not contemporary colouring.

No Binding. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Plate from John Augustus Atkinson's (1775 - 1831) 'A Picturesque Representation of the Manners, Customs and Amusements of the Russians', 1803 - 1804. Hand coloured soft ground etching and aquatint with very large margins. Green bevel cut mount. Mount window 190 x 253 mm; overall size of mount 340 x 405 mm. John Augustus Atkinson was a British etcher, painter, draughtsman and printmaker. He spent 1784 - 1801 in Russia with his uncle, James Walker. After returning to London in 1801, he made prints after his works, of Russian subjects, and made outline etchings for other artists. He also executed paintings on military subjects and battles. 34 x 40.5 overall cm. Note the shading in the right margin. This is rippling of the paper from the damp stained outer margin hidden beneath the mount. The paper is also slightly toned.

From a collection of material relating to William Bragg, Printer, of Cheapside, Taunton, Devon. Printed on one side of a piece of wove paper, 22 x 27.5 cm. Grubby and lightly creased, with central spike hole, slight wear and loss to extremities, and 5 cm closed tear. Text clear and entire. Twelve lines of printed text, in a variety of types and point sizes, reading 'A Sermon, on behalf of the Home Missionary Society, will be preached at Paul's Meeting, Taunton, On Friday Evening, April 14, 1826. By The Rev. John Thomas, Minister of the New Chapel, Highgate. Service to begin at the usual Time.' On reverse thirteen lines in ink, in a contemporary hand, with corrections, relating to the annual meeting of the Somerset Auxiliary Missionary Society: 'The Revd Messrs Liefchild of Bristol & Partridge will preach on the occasion'. BBTI lists William Bragg as active in Taunton before 1830.

On one side of a piece of landscape 8vo grey wove paper. Clear and complete. Discoloured and worn, with spike hole at centre. Printed part of receipt reads 'London, .18. | 49, Friday Strt. Cheapside. | M. | Bought of Joseph Webb, | Importer of Cigars.' The bill is for '2lbs. Bengal Cheroots - 9/- | 18/-', with the receipt reading '1852 | Aug 4th. paid [signed] Jo: Webb'. Docketed on reverse 'Webb | 18/'. Webb does not appear to have traded from the site for very long, and little is to be discovered about him.
