Original cloth, very good condition, top of spine with a small tear, wear and rubbing along spine and at corners. 16 (of 26???) engraved views drawn by George Strickland and Thomas Birch, with each view having text facing. One plate loose. Plates have tissue guards and some foxing. Original errata slip laid in, explaining the absence from its proper place of the plate of the Swedish Lutheran Church. This plate is present in this volume. This octavo edition is not mentioned in Howes C383, which mentions only the quarto edition. This book measures 22.3x13.7 cm., considerably smaller than copies of the standard edition which measure around 27x18 cm. This edition is also not in Sabin 12731 which characterizes the other edition as a small folio. As there is no table of contents or list of plates, it is not at all clear whether this volume is complete or is lacking plates. There are no obvious indications of any plates or leaves missing. The signature identifiers at the bottoms of some leaves run from A to H, with no apparanet missing leaves. In short, the proper collation of this work is not known, thus it is not at all clear whether this volume is complete or not. Four of the plates contain the line "Pub. by C. G. Childs, Engraver, Philadelphia - 1827." The remainder have the same line with the date changed to 1828. The title page and copyright notice on its verso both carry the 1827 date. Not in American Imprints.
