These men captured during the North African campaign, were sent to Orkney to work on the Churchill Barrier, a massive series of concrete causeways which seal the approach to Scapa Flow. Domenico Chiochetti collected a small band of helpers and built a chapel at one end of one of the nissen huts which was given over to them to use as canteen and for worship. He worked alone and with some help to produce the chapel which stands to this day and which he gifted to the people of Orkney when he returned to his home after the war. He returned in the 1960's and was welcomed by the inhabitants. ORKNEY'S ITALIAN CHAPEL P.O.W.
