Fair hardcover with two inches missing from the spine at the heel and one inch from the crown, rubbing to the other extremities, a light crease to the covers, and light soiling; the hinges are tender, the forms lightly shaken, and there is light tanning to the page edges but the interior is otherwise clean with only light signs of handling. There are no credits in the book (and thus presumably unauthorized) but it was written by Preston's aunt Zoe Hoyle, identified in the original as "Z.H.," and illustrated by Preston in collaboration with George Howard-Vyse. Preston drew the Peek-A-Boo characters and backgrounds while Howard-Vyse rendered all the rabbit figures. Preston (1887-1969) was the illustrator and writer of many British children's books, most published between 1910 and 1934, when she received a substantial inheritance and more or less removed herself from public view. Hardcover. Condition: Poor. First Edition. An uncommon large format Peek-a-Boos book. A disreputable copy of a scarce book. MISSING the title page and preliminaries including the frontis. Nevertheless there are still 17 wonderful full page (34x21.5 cm) printed on brilliant white stock. A number of the plates have finger smudges and the last three are dampstained. Covers very worn, binding split at several locations.

There are no inscriptions but some very small library stamps towards the end of the book.

Board book cut to the shape of a boat, pages on heavy paper, unpaginated. top of ship sail scuffed, front and back corners also scuffed. Weakened spine replaced with new green bookcloth (blends well with the green sear), one page has 3" tear taped. ; 8 x 11 1/2 ".
