According to a website dedicated to Ware, gnus, "it has been reported (although I don't know the veracity of this) that Ware is actively seeking out copies, buying them, and destroying them. While it is understandable that he might be embarrassed by this (literally, I think) sophomoric work, it does show a young, promising, obviously talented artist doing his best, which is nothing to be ashamed of. This one is especially interesting because Ware has not only signed this copy, but inscribed it and added a small sketch in a related graphic style, suggesting that this signature may have been added close to the book's publication. Since Ware's more mature works adopt his (now) familiar style, an early signature such as this is unusual. All Ware drawings and sketches are difficult to find and highly collectible; ones in this early style are virtually impossible to find.
