Es erschien 1834 als Blatt XIV. der Jahresgabe des Kopenhagener Kunstvereins und geht auf ein Gemälde Eckersbergs aus dem Jahre 1833 in leicht abgewandelter Form zurück (Korvetten Najaden"s styrbords batteri og daek, im Statens Museum Kopenhagen). - Ausgezeichneter, klarer Abdruck mit vollem Rand! Eckersberg begann seine Ausbildung mit einer Malerlehre bei Jes Jessen (1743-1807) in Apenrade. Ab 1803 besuchte er die Akademie in Kopenhagen als Schüler Nicolai Abraham Abildgaards (1743-1809). Er gewann das Rom-Stipendium, 1811-13 war er Schüler bei Jacques Louis David (1748-1825) in Paris, danach folgte ein Aufenthalt in Rom bis 1816, wo er im selben Hause wie Berthel Thorvaldsen (1768-1844) wohnte. 1818 wurde er zum Professor an der Kopenhagener Akademie ernannt. Eckersberg ist Vater der dänischen Malkunst' genannt worden, und es herrscht kein Zweifel, daß seine Bedeutung sowohl aufgrund seines Schaffens als auch aufgrund seiner umfassenden Lehrtätigkeit riesig gewesen ist."
