Brossura. Condition: new. Casalvelino Scalo, 2021; br., pp. 560, ill.(Atti e Memorie del Popolo). Una vicenda dimenticata e sconosciuta di malagiustizia nell'Italia forcaiola dell'Ottocento. Il macchinista teatrale Cesare Batacchi, anarchico fiorentino, è accusato di aver lanciato una bomba sul corteo monarchico che la sera del 18 novembre 1878, a Firenze, festeggia Umberto I scampato all'attentato di Passannante, avvenuto il giorno prima a Napoli. Al processo è condannato, innocente, all'ergastolo. Tre anni dopo, due accusatori, all'estero, ritrattano le accuse denunciando di essere stati manovrati dalla questura fiorentina. In un paese serio, che ha l'orgoglio di aver dato i natali a Cesare Beccaria, Batacchi sarebbe stato immediatamente scarcerato, invece continua a rimanere nel penitenziario di Volterra. Nel 1899 riprende la campagna per la liberazione o per la revisione del processo e il ministro di grazia e giustizia afferma che non lo libererà. Il Partito Socialista Italiano alle elezioni del 1900 lo candida alla Camera dei Deputati nei collegi di Torino e di Pietrasanta (Lu). Eletto deputato di Pietrasanta l'elezione è annullata. Di fronte alla crescente indignazione popolare il re concede la grazia reale, senza che Batacchi abbia firmato nessuna domanda di grazia. Libro.

"Il 28 novembre 1878 una bomba in via Nazionale a Firenze uccide tre uomini e una bambina che si trovavano lì per una manifestazione in solidarietà ad Umberto I, scampato il giorno precedente ad un attentato. Eugenio Ciacchi, giornalista anarco-socialista nel 1900 compila con minuzia queste venti dispense con cui ricostruisce l'assurdo processo contro gli "Internazionalisti anarchici": il macchinista teatrale Cesare Batacchi e i suoi compagni, finiti alla sbarra, e ovviamente condannati, per la bomba. Non bastò l'evidenza che gli internazionalisti non avessero mai né pensato né organizzato l'attentato, non bastano le ritrattazioni dei testimoni, non basta l'assenza di prove, non bastano le (dimostrate) macchinazioni della questura di Firenze. I colpevoli sono tali a prescindere e per loro non c'è garantismo che tenga. Batacchi, condannato all'ergastolo, viene addirittura candidato alla Camera dal Partito Socialista alle elezioni del 1900; eletto, non gli sarà mai consentito di accedere al Parlamento".
