Nella figura del monarca, soggetto indiscusso della raccolta, si incardinano e si saldano i due ideali della poetica tamil delle origini: l'eroe che rientra vincitore acclamato dalla folla dei sudditi e l'amato sempre irraggiungibile che turba il cuore delle fanciulle che assistono alla parata. Scettro, stendardo e lancia divengono così al contempo simboli del re vincitore e dell'amante nel pieno della sua virilità. L'opera, di cui rimangono solamente circa 130 versi, rappresenta l'ideale punto di ingresso per accedere alle incalcolabili ricchezze della letteratura in tamil classico. Libro.
