Though unknown today in both music and hurling, Egan Clancy thought quite highly of himself and his song, printing on the cover, "Written and sung with great success by the well known hurler athlete." As one might expect based on the title, the song is quite political with the chorus referencing the execution of Irish soldier, Kevin Barry, "Oh, Marrone while you cheered in the great Polo grounds/Kevin Barry was murdered by English blood hounds/I now make appeal to all Irish men here/Get ready your rifles, the great Day draws near/Prepare for to fight for, to die and to free/Your beautiful Erin, bright gem of the sea." Unrecorded by *OCLC* and it appears to be equally scarce in the trade. An uncommon self-published song, written as a rallying cry for Ireland's fight for independence.
