The poet Claude Malleville (1597-1647) is one of the most notable representatives of the generation that immediately followed that of Malherbe. He is, from his beginnings, around 1620, a poet appreciated for the quality of his verses, a regular at the Hôtel de Rambouillet and the salon of Mademoiselle de Gournay, he collaborated brilliantly on La Guirlande de Julie and composed rondeaux and epigrams, which are recommended by the ease of their turn and craftsmanship. He was attached as secretary to the Maréchal de Bassompierre, and once the latter was arrested, Malleville died shortly after. * (6) 370pp. (11).
