Original brown cloth rubbed and soiled, some scuffing at spine ends with 1cm tear to cloth at head, slender shelf abrasion along bottom board edges. Gilt top edge; toning to fore-edge and bottom edge; toning and foxing to endpapers; front pastedown has past owner's ink inscription "Frank S. Moody, | Tuskaloosa, | Ala." (utilizing the 19th century spelling of the town); long tear to page 345; some occasional light foxing and soiling to interior pages which otherwise remain clean. Binding is firm. A good+ copy. OCLC attributes authorship of this book to New Hampshire banker Claudius Buchanan Patten (1828-1886). Likewise, the book's owner, Frank S. Moody (1849-1920), was also involved in banking serving as president of the First National Bank of Tuscaloosa from 1879-1920 succeeding his father Washington Moody (1807-1879) who founded the institution in 1871 which continued to operate to 1988 when it was purchased by AmSouth which, in turn, was absorbed by Regions Financial Corporation in 2006. …
