He founded the Afsharid dynasty of Iran and was known as one of Iran?s most powerful rulers up until his death by assassination during a rebellion. Nader idolized Genghis Khan and Timur, previous conquerors from Central Asia. He imitated their military prowess and?especially later in his reign?their cruelty. His victories during his campaigns briefly made him West Asia?s most powerful sovereign, ruling over what was arguably the most powerful empire in the world. Following his assassination in 1747, his empire quickly disintegrated and Iran fell into a civil war. Notably, he was assassinated by a group of his own officers, two of whom Kouli-Kan killed before he himself was dispatched. , Size : 8vo.(165 x 105mm), Very good example. Hardcover. Yellow vellum over boards with gilt lettering and illustration on the spine; speckeled textblock edges; six volumes in three books; 244, 191, 221, 216, 199, 232 pp.; richly illustrated. Text in Italian. This is an extremely interesting early Mythological Dictionary. Rare find! The illustrations of the Gods, Heroes, Demigods and others are quite quaint. Good (Boards have warping/edgewear/scuffing/smudging; in book 3, the vellum has chipped off the front cover; all the books have the vellum warn through to the boards in places, primarily at the edges of the covers; there is a bit of warping to the boards as well; bookplates ifc in each book; textblock edges are toned/scuffed/smudged; pages are clean, but there is extensive toning and foxing, as expected with age; textblock of book 3 does have some staining at the top, that does carry through 1/2 inch of the top pages of the last part of book 3; binding is surprisingly solid.).
