Manned by volunteers and flying American aircraft acquired from the British, the AVG fought in the face of overwhelming odds in China and Burma prior to the US entry into World War II. Pilots such as "Pappy" Boyington, R.T. Smith and John Petach became household names due to their exploits against the Japanese Army Air Force. Very Good plus overall, with moderate toning, faint pencil on the endpapers; jacket with heavy spine fading, light edge wear, paper repairs on the verso at the spine ends, brief pencil on the front flap. Still packs quite a visual punch. Since these hardcover sports books were often read by like-minded owners, editions are not often found in collectible quality.
