Softcover. Condition: Very Good. First edition. Mass market paperback. Introduction in English with poems in French. Neat owner bookplate of Prosser Gifford on first page. Moderate edgewear with creases and rubbing, very good. Gifford was the first Dean of Faculty at Amherst College and best known for his work as Director of Scholarly Programs at the Library of Congress. He has published many works relating to African history. Poets in this collection include: Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo, Birago Diop, Leopold Sedar Senghor, Jacques Rabemananjara, Bernard Dadie, Flavien Ranaivo, Tchicaya U Tam'si, Joseph Bognini, Martial Sinda, Francis Bebey, and David Diop.
