UDB Unused - clean, no writing or postage marks. Date approximate. Gustav Adolf Carl Closs (1864-1938) was a German painter, illustrator, heraldist and entomologist. He studied law at the University of Tübingen, and briefly attended the University of Freiburg. Deciding on a change of careers, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts, Karlsruhe, where he studied with Ernst Schurth, soon transferring to the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich to study with Wilhelm von Diez. In 1891, he returned to Stuttgart, earning a living providing illustrations for the popular satirical journal Fliegende Blätter. ; Postage adjusted for postcard orders.

Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Unclipped jacket has light edge wear with minor tears, chipping and creasing.
