No Binding. Condition: Very Good. The verse (a blessing) underneath the illustration has an ornate Celtic design capital letter "B" at the beginning which is hand coloured too. The verse reads: " Bless the four corners of this house And be the lintel blest; And bless the hearth, and bless the board, and bless each place of rest; And bless the door that opens wide to stranger as to kin; And bless each crystal window-pane that lets the starlight in; And bless the roof-tree over-head, and every sturdy wall; The peace of man, the peace of God, the peace oflove on all." With a small ornate Celtic design also hand coloured at the end of the verse. The Cluna Studio was established at 39 Harcourt Street, Dublin, in 1923 by Gertrude M. Grew from Portadown. She studied at the School of Art in Belfast & the Royal College of Art, London. Margaret O' Keefe from Wexford joined Gertrude in 1924. She has studied at The Metropolitan School of Art, Dublin. They made Jewellery, enamelled metal work, stencilled fabrics garments for children, coloured embroidery, Hand coloured prints, Calendars, Cards, handpainted woodwork. In the 1940s the Studio moved to 54 Dawson Street & closed in the 1950s. This card is undated. However the verse by Guiterman is copyright Harper & Brothers, 1916. The card is obviously later as the studio was only established in 1923. It would seem to be an early printed broadside. Circa 1920's (?). Arthur Guiterman was born in Vienna, Austria of American parents in 1871. He is best known for his humorous poems. He died in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in 1943. Interesting adaptation of an American blessing to an Irish context. It almost sounds Irish. Decorative. Framed under glass.
