The novel was first published in the UK as a Digit paperback original in Faber in 1958 and then in hard covers by Gollancz in 1962. Originally published in book form in the US by Ballantine in 1955. There is a small dark spot near the bottom of the front panel and light corner bumping with a small dent to the top edge of the front panel but the boards are otherwise clean and unmarked. There is some browning to the page edges. Light trace of a price in pencil at the top of the front free endpaper but the pages are otherwise unmarked. The jacket has browning to the spine, some discolouration to the front and rear panels and a little light edge wear. Jacket design by John Griffiths.
