Add to basketRare first edition of a medical compendium based on the doctrines of Hippocrates and Galen, written by a Dutch professor at the university of Padua. Hippocrates (ca. 460-370 BCE) is often called the "father of medicine", due to his numerous contributions to the field which are still in use today, like the Hippocratic oath. Toget…her with Galen (ca. 129-216 CE), who developed the theory of the four humours, he is considered the leading doctor of his time. The present work is a compilation of some of their most important texts. It is very rare, as we have not been able to find any other copies in sales records of the past hundred years.With a near-contemporary owner's inscription on the title page ("Joannes Franciscus Masci Bianchi (?)"). The boards are somewhat rubbed. The first few leaves are somewhat frayed around the top and bottom edge, a water stain on the last few leaves.
