First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Included. First edition, first printing (so stated). 4to. Illustrated profusely with 80 photos and facsimile documents. Dust jacket (unclipped). Very good, fresh. No other signatures or bookplates. Signed and inscribed by Jean Garceau in blue ink on the front free endpaper to actress Virginia Grey: "Virginia dear, My deep appreciation to you for your help and interest in making this project possible. Love always, Jean Garceau, 1977." Also laid in loose is a note from Garceau to actress Virginia Grey: "Dear Ginny - Hope you like it. I think our dear friend would be pleased of it, don't you, Love you." Garceau was very important in Gable's life. In 1936, while working for Myron Selznick, she met Carole Lombard and became her exclusive agent. After Lombard's untimely death, Garceau stayed on with Gable for nearly 20 years. She was privy to knowing Gable off the screen as no one else did. Virginia Grey dated Clark Gable and for a time was romantically linked to him. Provenance: from the estate of actress Virginia Grey. Signed by Author(s).
