Published in 1897, this is an extremely rare book on The Royal Irish Rifles 2nd Battalion Bound in a full leather binding, a landscape format measuring 13.75 inches by 11.5 inches approx., 97 pages plus a number of blank pages for adding extra photos This example has been used to add extra photos on the front and rear endpapers along with a few cartoon drawings. These pictures show the Ross Family, and in particular Cadet Jack Ross of the Warwick Cadets, There is an handwritten inscription to the top of the books presentation page which reads Sergeant Major J.E.J. Ross 18092 R.E. Bombay Sappers and Miners, Kirkee, India 1903. The book has 29 pages of text, the rest of the book is photos, most full page. The covers are noticeably worn with wear, splits and loss to leather at both spine ends, wear to board edges and some noticeable white marks to boards and inner board edges Internally some red staining to a few of the photos (see pictures) and some noticeable heavy marks to a few of the blank pages at the rear intended for fixing additional photos Staining to some page edges, a few small edge tears, else in acceptable condition.
