Hardcover. Condition: Poor. Flexible brown cloth covers with black and gold stamped lettering on front cover. The covers are worn and scuffed and the page edges are darkened and soiled with slight chipping to a few of the pages. The text block is cracked between the title page and the introduction and while the title page is still attached by the binding string, it is partially detached. The remainder of the contents is in good condition- some browning of pages, but no other cracks in text block and no markings or notations in text. Howes-C574. Point for second issue is: Lafcadio Hearn's name at the bottom of p299. Lacks the map, but Howes indicates that the map was not issued with all copies. The map was loosely inserted in the guide and today, most copies don't have it. There are fourteen full page engravings, a testimonial written by George Cable (one of many prominent contributing writers, including Lafcadio Hearn) 322 pages of text and a two-page index. A significant book that presented a rich account of the history and traditions of the "Creole City. " The guide was sold by vendors at the New Orleans Exposition to visitors to the city.; 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall.
