Michel Leiris et Georges Bataille décrivaient parfaitement sa personnalité et sa vie très tourmentée : « Est-il besoin d'ajouter qu'on ne saurait réduire à quelque image définie que ce soit l'une des existences les plus véhémentes, les plus traversées de conflits qui aient été vécues ?
