Operating as an egalitarian collective, its contributors included prominent activists, legal campaigners, and members of radical defense organizations-most notably the Stoke Newington 8 Defence Group, which formed following the high-profile 1971 conspiracy trials of the British anarcho-communist group, The Angry Brigade.
