No Binding. Condition: VG. Circa 1900, sized 6 x 9.5 inches, on heavy gloss paper, generally very clean and bright. The author, b. Laviadia, Greece, 1824, was orphaned at the age of four when his parents were killed during the Greek revolt against Turkey. He was adopted by J. P. Miller, an American who was fighting with the Gree…ks. Brought to his adopted father's home in Montpelier, Vermont, in 1828, he studied law, and was admitted to the Vermont bar in 1845. In 1846 he moved to Wisconsin, settling on a farm near Oshkosh where he also practiced law. During the Mexican War, he served as colonel of the Wisconsin militia. He was state assemblyman in 1853, served on the state board of public works in 1854, and was for many years a member of the Winnebago County Board. In 1890 he was elected to Congress, and served one term, 1891 - 1893.

In fine condition. Paper evenly age toned else an excelle…nt copy, practically unused. ~ FIRST EDITION. Lucas' work was exceptionally successful. In 1925 (some bibliographies say 1923) it was translated into English as "The evolution of tactical ideas in France and Germany during the war of 1914-1918" and apparently also published by Berger-Levrault, a rather uncommon event. In French it went through several editions, with the 2nd edition appearing directly the next year (1924); the 3rd in 1925, and the 4th edition, apparently the last, in 1932. Copies of the present FIRST EDITION are extremely rare as apparently were printed in a small run. OCLC does not locate a single institutional holding worldwide of this edition.
