Hardcover. Condition: Good. W.S. Vanderbilt Allen (illustrator). Limited Edition. LIMITED EDITION, No. 98 of 1000 Copies. Complete. ** Elephant size volume features custom three-quarter leather binding with red cloth on covers, as well as handsome colored marble design on endpapers. Rounded spine has gilt and five raised bands. Book displays gentle commensurate wear and aging. Covers exhibit overall scuffing and staining, as well as a small black splash near head edge on back cover, that also displays some lighter brown staining in an area of 3". Boards are exposed at bumped corners, and show commensurate overall edgewear, with some darkening to leather around corners, as well as fading of edges. Covers occasionally show faint white staining, more significant over 9" along front shoulder. Spine displays gentle rubbing along shoulders and at ends, with some chipping to foot, and faint white staining. Binding is secure overall, and is reinforced. Apparent edge toning on some pages is not actual but result of shadow on photo. Front endpaper as well as first Illustrated Title Page are partially detached from textblock, along approx. 12". Illustrated title pages show gentle toning and minimal occasional smudges and foxing. Title page shows a little marginal foxing. Fore edge of title page is cut shorter than Introduction page resulting in a shadow along edge of Introduction page. Text pages show occasional marginal foxing, as do blank sides of illustration pages, and some edgewear. Illustration plates are well preserved and vibrant, with gentle toning and minimal, rare marginal foxing. Illustration plates have some bleed-through on blank side. Last two illustration plates show heavier marginal foxing that occasionally goes into illustration. Interior is gently age-toned with occasional marginal foxing and edgewear. Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. Textblock edges have gilt along head, and display commensurate age-toning and wear along fore and foot edges. Book may exhibit additional minor signs of age or wear. ** Pages not numbered. 16 Plates + text pages. 18 x 23 inches. ** Lavishly illustrated with 16 full-color heliographic plates and 16 B&W vignettes.
