Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Between 1861 and 1865 the violent struggles of the Civil War extended into the Western Territories, where they were complicated by the involvement of the Indians. The Confederate leaders had planned to annex a corridor from the Rio Grande in Texas to the California coast. Thus they would ha…ve had a pathway to the Pacific Ocean, areas rich in minerals, new territory for the expansion of slavery, and valuable military stores and equipment. They soon found that the land was more difficult to conquer than they had anticipated. The people of the Western Territories for the most part remained loyal to the Union, and the Confederate vision of empire failed to materialize.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. No owner names, no bookplates, no markings, dust jacket not price clipped. Reason for condition downgrade of dust jacket is that the back cover has a small piece missing at the bottom approximately 3/4 of an inch by one-half of an inch. Dust jacket n…ow housed in an archival quality jacket and this blemish is not outstanding or apparent except upon close inspection. 230 pages. The purpose of writing the volume was to undertake a survey and interpret the significance of the Civil War in the Western region as a whole and place it in perspective. A rather nice copy of an increasingly hard to find book.
