ABOUT THIS BOOK AND COMPILER DR. J. BLAIR MORTON, EXCERPT FROM THE FORWARD BY JOE B. OVERMYER: The History of Kanawha Presbytery is in reality a history of the growth and development of growth and development of the Presbyterian Church in the Kanawha Valley, with particular emphasis upon the Presbyterian Church, U.S., and its compellation in no small measure must be credited to the vision, patience and bull dog tenacity of Dr. J. Blair Morton, one of God's true servants, who for 37 years was Stated Clerk of Kanawha Presbytery and who in 1941 conceived the idea of publishing such a history on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Kanawha Presbytery which was organized in the Kanawha Salines Church, April 9, 1895. This dream, however, was not realized; but having begun a good work, Dr. Morton not to be denied its final consummation. So now after 16 years the History of Kanawha Presbytery is presented with the hope that it will be a source of information, inspiration and interest to all who read it, and a memorial to him who in life labored so faithfully to see the volume completed and published. While not a true story of the Kanawha Presbytery, it will serve as a source book for the present and future generations as well as to all who are interested in the beginnings, growth, and development of the Presbyterian Church, U.S., in the Great Kanawha Valley.
