It includes a Foreword by a very young Harold Wilson, President of the board of Trade at the time, a post he held between 1947 and 1951, so it's possible to date this book to between those dates. It includes details of towns and in the area, and an illustrated rundown of prominent industries in the region, including pottery, tiles, electrical porcelain, coal mining, engineering, rubber tyres, boots & shoes, textiles etc etc. Also included are lots of great advertisements, many for ceramic manufacturers, but also for other businesses in the region, many in colour and many full page. Includes adverts for Wedgwood, H J Wood ceramcs, Boulton Machnery, Wood's Ware, Elkes Biscuits, Royal Albert China, Beswick Ware, Spode, Crown Staffordshire, Royal Doulton, Minton, Burlington Ware, George Clewes and Royal Leighton etc etc. A fantastic reference book for anyone interested in the North Staffordshire region, advertising, or the ceramic industry.

Wrappers. First Edition. Illustrations and facsimiles Wrappers somewhat creased and a little rubbed and worn , but a nice copy. Loosely inserted are a number of items of associated ephemera, including announcements and invitations.

Quarter Cloth. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Issued under the authority of North Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce in the interest sof commerce and industry. No date. Cloth frayed to head and foot of spine, boards rubbed, bumped to corners and chipped to edges with the odd minor crease, endpapers lightly foxed, small corner torn from f-fep, else internally clean and tidy, photographs bright. Size: 4to.

The binding cloth is quite mottled; particularly along the spine and around the board perimeters. Wear at the spine extremities, and a bit of bumping at the corner tips. Small spot of wear on the front board. The gilt lettering on the front board is bright; that on the spine is dulled, and difficult to read. Some ink offset from the signature on the front flyleaf. Small spot of foxing in the fore-edge margin of a couple of pages. Else the pages are a bit age-toned, but clean. Some smoker odor. ; 26C; 8-1/2" x 6"; 221 pages; Signed by Author.

Octavo. 213pp. A couple of leaves with a tiny tear of a tiny bit of creasing at the foredge else fine in a very good orange dust jacket toned at the spine and topedge, with a few tiny chips. A presentable copy. The English edition seems to be significantly more uncommon than the American edition with *OCLC* noting approximately 1/10th the holdings.
