Present exhibition dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the artist Ado Vabbe for the first time provides an overview of the creation of an artist, painter, graphic, book designer and teacher. In the second half of the 1920s Vabbe refused to participate in exhibitions, so this exhibition is a truly great event for artist's creation admirers. The catalog begins with foreword by art historian Tiina Nurk, which reveals Vabbe's biography and creative way. List of displayed works includes 337 paintings, 121 drawings, 41 graphics, 15 ex-librises, 30 designed books. Catalog contains also 33 full-page reproductions of artworks printed on coated paper and 18 illustrations in the text. Catalog remarkable cover design created by Estonian profilic illustrator A. Kalberg. Ado Vabbe (18921961) Estonian avant-garde painter, graphic artist and lecturer, founder of Pallas Artists Union and the art school by the same name, Professor of art since 1938, member of Estonian Artists' Association. Vabbe is greatest Estonian modernist of the early 20th century, whose name is among other things associated with the advent of futurism, cubo-futurism and expressionism. Vabbe's abstract works are also known. His significance in Estonian culture is founded on his Avant-Garde work, for which reason innovative cultural groupings maintained close contact with Vabbe until the early 1920's. He was very close to Siuru grouping and illustrated many group member's literary works. Vabbe was connected to the "Noor Eesti" (Young Estonia group) traditions, the art worlds of "Beardsley" and "Mir Iskusstva". He personally knew Vassily Kandinsky and was influenced by the abstract impressionism of the group "Der Blauer Reiter". From all of this he synthesised his own style, which is close to Art Deco. Vabbe's style changed in the mid-1920's. He withdrew from active life in art and continued working as an art teacher. Henceforth he painted impressionist works inspired by natural settings.
