An excellent clean copy with only slight wear on the edge of the spine. The author has rewritten a large portion of the earlier work and has also included many new engraved plates of various pieces of equipment. The engraving give good clear examples of the types of equipment that were in use at that time. The book contains excellent detailed descriptions of the physical and inorganic aspects of chemistry. The text also has a detailed summation of the knowledge to that time of the different areas of organic chemistry. This is particularly interesting since organic chemistry was in its infancy in the middle decades of the nineteenth century. The book concludes with a large section on the analysis of metallic substances. Overall an excellent text detailing the chemical knowledge of the time. John Lee Comstock (1789-1858).

He opened by saying his printer allowed him no time to fully develop the subject.
