Le comte Christophe de Chabrol de Crouzol (1771-1836) fut pair de France en 1823 et ministre de la Marine et des Colonies sous Louis XVIII puis Charles X, dans les ministères Villèle et Martignac de août 1824 à mars 1828. Son ministère fut marqué par d importantes réformes. Il accomplit dans ces fonctions une uvre considérable : l 'application de la loi française aux colonies, la formation du Conseil d amirauté, le rétablissement des préfectures maritimes, l' organisation des équipages de ligne, etc. Enfin, il continua la politique de développement des grands voyages scientifiques de circumnavigation en préparant celui de Dumont d Urville. Destiné au génie militaire, il fut obligé, au début de la Révolution française, de faire campagne comme simple soldat. Revenu dans sa famille, il fut emprisonné avec celle-ci sous la Terreur. Rendu à la liberté en 1795, il entra à l'École polytechnique (promotion 1794) avec le numéro 1, et en sortit premier deux ans après.…
