Softcover. Condition: Very Good+. 1st Edition (softcover issue). (printed wraps) [tight clean copy with light shelfwear, slight fading to spine, slight uneven age-toning to covers]. (B&W photographs, stage diagrams) A dramatization of early episodes in the life of Lincoln. A production of the WPA's Federal Theatre Project, it ran for 161 performances on Broadway between March and November of 1938 -- and was overlapped just slightly (and overtaken, you might say) by Robert E. Sherwood's better-known "Abe Lincoln in Illinois," which opened in October, ran for over a year, and won the Pulitzer Prize. (Some of the same territory was also covered by John Ford's 1939 film YOUNG MR. LINCOLN, which itself was followed by the film adaptation of the Sherwood play.).
