Unbound. Condition: Fine. 1. Autograph Letter Signed ("D.W. Connely") dated 3 April 1870 from San Francisco to "Robert". Three pages on folded octavo leaf. Old folds from mailing else fine. Connely asks his correspondent to come to the mine that he owns with two other men: "You will go to the Eureka District which is situated about forty miles Westwardly from White Pine on the road leading to Austria.when you reach Elko telegraph to me your arrival time. In that District I own a half interest in a Mine in connection with W.S. Keyes and B.J. Virgin. Mr. Virgin is in charge and living at the mine in a camp." 2. Autograph Letter Signed ("D.W. Connely") dated 9 July 1870 from San Francisco to "Robert". One page quarto leaf. Old folds from mailing else fine. Connely gives directions for Robert to curtail their arrangement with a Mr. Carpenter in their mining interests ".besides what you have already done." He give further instructions for him to look into the assayable value of their bullion: " - it may be that very rich ores were smelted with the ore from our mine which made the Bullion so rich. It is important to know the truth of this." In the 1866 voter roles of San Francisco, Connely's was born in Virginia in 1806. His occupation was listed as "capitalist"; in the 1870 census, Connely's estate was estimated at $100,000.
