Condition: Good. 4th Edition. 4th EDITION booklet (40 pages) (c. 1929), staple-bound with illustrated cover and lettering in brown ink, is in G+ condition, having tiny pencil mark near bottom of front cover (in illustration), some edge-creasing; back cover has a vertical crease which affects (in diminishing degree as you move from back to front) all pages; moderate rubbing to both covers; interior pages show some foxing. Illustrated with b&w photographs of early Los Angeles, including the Old Plaza Church, Malibu coast, La Brea tar pits, San Fernando Mission. Also included is a folding map showing the old Spanish and Mexican ranchos. State and local. California. History. Spanish and Mexican land grants. DB.

Stapled wraps. Condition: Very Good-. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. B&W Illustrations; This is a small format booklet with illustrated cardstock covers and a stapled spine. The book covers have some bumping, rubbing and wear. There are several spots of ground-in finger dirt. The bottom front corner of the book cover has a noticeable crease. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's name and address on the front inside cover of the book. There is a map adhered to the inside rear cover. The map is in mostly clean, bright condition, but has some beginning generalized toning. "Edmund Palmer Conner (1900-1975) was born in Norfolk, Virginia on January 1, 1900. He was one of three children of Charles S. Conner, a lawyer, and Theodosia Brown Conner. The family migrated west in 1901 and settled in San Diego, California, where Conner attended elementary school, later moving to Pasadena where he attended Pasadena High School. The Bunker Hill neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles, bounded by Temple, Figueroa, 6th, and Hill Streets, was once an opulent subdivision created exclusively for Los Angeles's upper class in the late 19th century. The neighborhood began to decline after World War I as its population surged and wealthy residents headed for more suburban enclaves. Mansions were subdivided and occupied by renters, and eventually blight set in. In the 1950s, the city of Los Angeles began to redevelop the Bunker Hill area through the Bunker Hill Redevelopment Project, which not only included the demolition of Bunker Hill and its Victorian mansions, but the reconstruction of the Civic Center area.
