Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. I believe this is St. Paul's School in Princeton, NJ. From the Preface: "THESE "Memories" have been printed with the desire of recalling an "old boy's" impressions of the personality of one around whom grew a great school, and whose honored name is among the cherished possessions of nearly three generations of St. Paul's men. No memory of any characteristic word or act has been withheld, though the apparent inconsistencies of Dr. Henry A. Coit's character were as marked and puzzling as those of other great men. Let it be remembered, moreover, that the subject of this memoir, owing to his comparatively secluded life, experienced little of the leveling process that naturally falls to the lot of most men. While he was always supreme in his little kingdom, bound by no conventionalities of "keeping school," with all his forces constantly arrayed to elevate the "prevailing tone" of schoolboy honor, there were many pairs of sharp eyes to observe, and many irresponsible tongues ready to report abroad any peculiarities of method or principle. In this connection, it is worth recalling that St. Peter spoke of "our dear brother Paul" as writing "some things hard to be understood."" Good condition. Minimal markings/annotations within. Previous owners name on inside cover. Please refer to images. Comes from a smoke-free and pet-free environment. Every item is packaged by hand and handled with care.

This book is a trove of insights into the true nature and development of children, written from the perspective of an experienced teacher and fervent advocate for childhood. The author shares a wealth of wisdom on the importance of the teacher's personality and the significance of truth, sympathy, and justice. The book encourages us to see children not as they seem, but as they may become, and stresses the essential role of the teacher in fostering their potential. The author emphasizes that our past experiences can shape how we teach, but they should never cloud our ability to see the potential in each child, and to make their education a journey of discovery and growth. Ultimately, this book is a reminder that the true measure of a teacher's success lies not in their ability to impart knowledge, but in their capacity to inspire, uplift, and guide their students toward becoming the best versions of themselves. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
