Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No jacket (as issued?). Blue boards have minor shelf wear, gilt titles are bright, binding tight, pages clean and unmarked. This book has been prepared to commemorate the centenary of the official establishment on March 30, 1885, of the London Hunt Club. The genesis of the Hunt, as the date on an earlier crest indicates, goes back to the City's "garrison" period and is popularly cited as May 9, 1843. On that day a famous military steeplechase took place that dramatically demonstrated local interest in equestrian sports, including foxhunting, which had actually begun in this area during the previous autumn. Since those early times the London Hunt and Country Club, as it was redesgnated in 1904, has attained an enviable record not only for its members' excellence in a number of competitive activities but also for their contribution to the community and the country during both peace and war. In its present attractie natural setting, where persons from many walks of life mingle in a stimulating and civilized ambience, the Club is unique in North America for its entente cordiale of foxhunting, golf, tennis and trapshooting over many decades. Such a brief account of so long a span must inevitably omit mention of many who played a signifciant role in the Club's development. Som of their names, however, do appear in the various appendices. 108 pages, illustrated with black and white photos.
