It is also a pleasant capsule of instruction making young readers aware that thety have a part to plaly in keeping America clean and beautiful. When the story begins, it is the Fourth of July and invasion of litterbugs is threatening at the beaches, parks and wooded areas. Mr. Litterfree and Miss Beautymore are delightful watch puppies who fight against the invasion of Toyland by the litterbugs. They are helped by Uncle Sam, Paul Parrot and Captain Wise Willie Pixup. Using the Jolly Lighthouse as a space ship the little crew travel to the moon for help. There the main in the moon welcomes them and Captain Willie Pixup joins them for the trip back to Toyland. Toland is made spic and span just in time for the fireworks. The pickup bugs did their part and the litterbugs ate enough Civic Pride Candy to make them join in the big pickup. Not one drop of litter was left when it came time for the fireworks that evening. And Toyland was sure to stay clean from that time on. George E. Booth (illustrator).
